A team of science professors in Australia developed the Vsail Trainer sailing simulator to help spinal cord patients. The simulator consists of a sailboat cockpit that uses a pneumatic ram to replicate the heeling or leaning motion of a sailboat. It is sailed like a conventional sailboat, using the same controls. The simulator is versatile because it can accommodate sailors of all skill levels and physical abilities. When fitted with an access unit, consisting of a seat and joystick controls, people with limited mobility can use the simulator.
